DOES A FRAGILE EUROPEAN UNION NEED RUSSIA AS ITS COMMON ENEMY, TO PREVENT ITS COLLAPSE?

All throughout history, European nations were at war with each other, and it is clear now that Russia, the so-called Bogeyman, is the only reason why their innate distaste for each-other keeps them from killing one-another, as in times past.  Their union is strictly an economic one, which is not strong enough to form a solid European thinking family of nations, in my opinion.

At this very point in time, there are already cracks appearing where some, probably, question their decision to give up their sovereignty.  Countries, like Hungary, are questioning the European leadership about their irrational attitude towards Russia, to the detriment of their viability.  The once powerful German economy is in decline, which might make some members glee with 'Schadenfreude' (pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune).

For example, "The Anglo-French Wars (1109–1815) were a series of conflicts between the territories of the Kingdom of England (and its successor state, the United Kingdom) and the Kingdom of France (succeeded by a republic). Their conflicts spanned throughout the Middle Ages to the modern age. "   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-French_Wars

  1. I think the EU needs the warm corpse of Russia to survive, due to over extended financial bets gone bad.
I don't think they will get it, but they may use their military buildups against their own citizens when the financial system crashes.
