"Trump Assassination Attempt: An Updated Timeline"

"Around two weeks after the failed attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life, new details are emerging about the shooting and the days leading up to it.

The perpetrator, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who authorities say acted alone, was fatally shot within seconds of opening fire.

According to FBI Director Christopher Wray, at least 700 FBI agents are involved in the investigation into the matter—the first attempted assassination of a U.S. president in more than four decades. Two other reviews into the Secret Service’s security failure are ongoing.

While these investigations are underway, a clearer image of the incident has come into focus—though many questions, including the shooter’s motives, remain unanswered.

New details were disclosed in testimonies to Congress in the week of July 22 by Mr. Wray, former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, and Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris.

So far, more than 100 interviews have been conducted, and more than 1,000 pieces of evidence have been cataloged, according to Col. Paris.

Here’s a breakdown of what we know about the attempted assassination so far.

July 3

The Trump campaign announces a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

 

July 6

Mr. Crooks searches online for upcoming events being held by former President Trump and the Democratic National Committee, according to Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), who cites briefings from law enforcement officials.

Mr. Crooks searches on the internet for how far away Lee Harvey Oswald was from President John F. Kennedy when Oswald shot the president.

“That’s a search that’s obviously significant in terms of his state of mind,” Mr. Wray told the House Judiciary Committee.

Mr. Crooks registers for the Butler rally on July 6.

July 6

Mr. Crooks visits the site of the rally for the first time, a week before the shooting.

“I think, a week before, he spent roughly 20 minutes there,” Mr. Wray testified.

July 12

The day before the shooting, Mr. Crooks goes to a shooting range, where he practices with a rifle.

Mr. Wray said that investigators have not yet confirmed that the “AR-style” rifle was the same one he used in the shooting, but said that the current assessment is that “it probably is.”

 

July 13

Morning—Mr. Crooks Returns to Rally Site

On the morning of the rally, Mr. Crooks returns to the site of the rally and spends around 70 minutes there. It was the second of his three visits to the site, according to Mr. Wray.

1:30 p.m.—Crooks Buys Ammunition

Mr. Crooks purchases around 50 rounds of ammunition for the rifle he uses in the assassination attempt.

Mr. Wray said that the FBI has learned this purchase took place at around 1:30 p.m. ET, approximately 5 hours before the shooting.

3:50 p.m.—Drone Flown

About two hours before the shooting, Mr. Crooks flies a drone to survey the rally site. He operates it about 200 yards from the stage where former President Trump plans to speak.

The drone, Mr. Wray said, afforded the gunman a “rearview mirror” of the scene behind him and a better assessment of the angle toward the podium.

The FBI has recovered the drone.

Mr. Crooks had legally purchased the rifle from his father.

5:10 p.m.—Sniper Notices Crooks

Approximately an hour before the shooting, Mr. Crooks is identified by a local law enforcement sniper, according to a report by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).

This sniper is one of two posted inside the American Glass Research (AGR) building, the same building from which Mr. Crooks fires an hour later.

The sniper who notices Mr. Crooks doesn’t immediately report it.

In her testimony, former Secret Service Director Cheatle said that the rally was allowed to proceed because Mr. Crooks was deemed as suspicious but not as a threat.

5:14 p.m.—Mr. Crooks Photographed

Law enforcement officers take pictures of Mr. Crooks around 5:14 p.m., according to Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.).

According to body camera footage taken in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a Beaver County sniper caught images of Mr. Crooks arriving via bicycle.

Local officers notice Mr. Crooks has a rangefinder, a device used to calculate distances for firearms, a little less than an hour before shots are fired.

Mr. Crooks is not yet considered a threat by the Secret Service, and isn’t until moments before the shooting.

5:38 p.m.—Crooks Reported to Command

The local law enforcement sniper who had initially noticed Mr. Crooks at 5:10 p.m. reports it in to command roughly 28 minutes later, at 5:38 p.m., according to Mr. Johnson.

Col. Paris said local officers deem Mr. Crooks suspicious because he is “milling around that area in front of the AGR building” but not entering the rally venue.

At the time, the officer is asked to report it to the Butler emergency services command center, which is in charge of distributing communications.

Notably, according to Mr. Johnson’s report, communications were siloed by agency, limiting communication between local and state police and the Secret Service. This means that the local sniper is unable to immediately communicate it to the Secret Service.

Col. Paris said multiple people were identified as suspicious at the rally.

5:41 p.m.—Command Made Aware of Crooks

Three minutes later, the law enforcement command center in Butler is made aware of Mr. Crooks by the sniper who initially noticed him, Mr. Johnson’s report says.

5:49 p.m.—Pictures of Crooks Distributed

Nine minutes after he makes the initial report to the command center, the sniper sends photos of Mr. Crooks to command, which are then distributed.

Around 5:51 p.m.—Secret Service Alerted

Pennsylvania State Police alerts the Secret Service to a man with a rangefinder at around the same time, Col. Paris told lawmakers on July 23.

Snipers stationed in a building overlooking the roof of the nearby AGR building leave their post to look for Mr. Crooks around the same time, Col. Paris said.

Mr. Crooks could have and should have been apprehended around this timeCol. Paris says at the hearing.

“I would say Mr. Crooks could have been encountered and intercepted. That would have been the ideal,” Col. Paris said.

Ms. Cheatle said in her testimony that rangefinders, which can offer a zoomed-in image to users, aren’t prohibited items and carrying one wasn’t enough on its own to label Mr. Crooks a threat.

5:55—Command Confirms Receipt of Photos

The Butler command center confirms receipt of the photos of Mr. Crooks from the sniper and says the sniper’s concerns are relayed to other security groups.

6:02 p.m. —Trump Takes the Stage

Former President Trump takes the stage to his usual intro, with “God Bless the USA” playing in the background.

6:06 p.m.—Agents Told of Issue

Around four minutes after former President Trump takes the stage, Secret Service agents are alerted to “an issue being worked at the 3 o’clock of the president,” according to Ms. Cheatle.

Sometime Before 6:09 p.m.—Crooks Climbs on Roof

Mr. Crooks has taken a position on the roof sometime before 6:09 p.m., at which point video verifies that he had scaled the building.

Mr. Crooks “climbed onto the roof using some mechanical equipment on the ground and vertical piping on the side of the AGR building,” Mr. Wray said.

 The FBI discovered later that Mr. Crooks had previously purchased a ladder, though Mr. Wray said that the FBI does not believe that he used this ladder to scale the building, as no ladder was found at the scene of the incident.

6:09 p.m.—Onlookers Notice Gunman on Roof

About two minutes before the first shot rings out, onlookers outside the rally are captured on video pointing out the shooter while yelling to law enforcement.

“Look, they’re all pointing,” one says.

“Yeah, someone’s on top of the roof,” another says.

The video zooms in on the shooter: “Yeah, he’s right there, you see him? He’s laying down; you see him?”

“Officer!” one shouts.

“He’s on the roof!” one woman says, sounding exasperated. “Right here, right on the roof.”

6:10 p.m.—Counter Snipers Notified

Approximately 90 seconds before the shooting, Secret Service snipers are notified about Mr. Crooks’s position on the roof.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) mentioned this during a July 24 hearing, citing briefings from law enforcement officials.

6:11 p.m.—Suspicious Person Deemed a Threat

Mr. Crooks is deemed a threat after being labeled “suspicious” up to this point, Ms. Cheatle told lawmakers on July 22.

In her testimony, Ms. Cheatle reported that Mr. Crooks was only deemed a threat “seconds before the gunfire started.”

Seconds Before Shooting—Officer Sees Gunman

Moments before the shooting, a police officer with Butler Township notices Mr. Crooks and attempts to approach him by climbing onto the roof.

As the officer grabs onto the roof’s ledge to get on the roof, the shooter turns and aims his gun at the officer.

The officer lets go of the ledge, retreats, and reports the threat via radio.

6:11:18 p.m.—Trump Speaks

Former President Trump is on stage discussing illegal immigration.

6:11:31—Trump Turns Head

Former President Trump turns his head, glancing at a chart of immigration data displayed on jumbotrons set up on either side of the stage.

6:11:32 p.m.—Shots Fired

The first shots are heard on camera right after former President Trump turns his head.

After the first shot rings out, the former president whips his hand to his ear, appears to notice blood, and quickly drops to the ground.

In later comments on the incident, former President Trump said he “knew something was wrong” almost immediately, particularly when he saw the blood.

According to Mr. Wray and Col. Paris, eight shell casings were recovered, indicating that Mr. Crooks fired as many rounds.

Ms. Cheatle reported that the countersniper who neutralized Mr. Crooks fired a single shot.

6:11:36 p.m.—Agents Rush On Stage

Several Secret Service agents rush on to the stage, swarming former President Trump, who was still crouched behind the podium.

Some of the agents’ comments are picked up by the microphone.

“What’re we doing, what’re we doing?” one female agent says. “Where are we going?”

6:12:32 p.m.—Trump Rises

For nearly a full minute, former President Trump remained prone on the stage, his body covered by Secret Service agents.

Two Secret Service personnel carrying military grade rifles take to the stage, scanning the crowd as Secret Service agents determine their next move.

Several agents shout, “Shooter down.”

“Shooter down, are we good to move?” a female agent asks.

“Shooter’s down,” a male agent replies. “We’re good to move.”

At this point, former President Trump begins to slowly stand up, still largely covered by agents. His shirt and hair are disheveled, and streaks of blood run down the right side of his face.

As he stands up, agents continue to shield his body.

6:12:47 p.m.—‘Fight, Fight, Fight!’

As former President Trump stands up, he agents, “Let me get my shoes.”

Moments later, he says, “Wait, wait, wait.”

The former president then raises his fist to the crowd and is seen saying the words, “Fight, fight, fight!”

6:12:55 p.m. —Trump Escorted Out

With most of his body still shielded by agents, former President Trump is carefully escorted off stage as he continues to pump his fist for the crowd.

He is taken by agents to a nearby vehicle, which pulls away.

Former President Trump is taken to Butler Memorial Hospital to receive medical attention, while several patients in the ER pray.

Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old firefighter is killed during the shooting as he shields his wife and daughter from gunfire. Two other men are seriously wounded, including 74-year-old James Copenhaver, of Moon Township, and 57-year-old David Dutch, of New Kensington."

Update for Lahaina - Maui - Hawaii

 Apart from some cleanup nothing has changed in Lahaina, people are still struggling to survive.

The local Government is currently considering a new law that will prohibit vacation rentals; they are obviously working to ensure economic disaster for many real estate owners.  There are no longer hotels in operation due to the fire and vacation rentals are helping the economy.  As far as the local Government is concerned, apparently, this is a bad thing.  Are they working on a plan to force all people from Lahaina for some diabolic purpose?

 The US, through its Speaker of the House, managed to reduce the honor of addressing its Congress in a joint session to a meaningless event by inviting a War Criminal to address its Congress.  Really, who in his or her right mind would want to lower their self-esteem by accepting such an invitation, after this?

The Speaker of the Canadian Parliament made the same mistake, by inviting a WW II war criminal into their chamber.   He lived to regret it; he had to resign as a result of his stupidity and poor taste.

"Israel's brutal assault on Gaza has resulted in 36,000 deaths and displaced 1.7 million people; while the world remains silent, Türkiye leads in aid and advocacy"

 "The genocide that Israel started in Gaza on Oct. 7, and spread to Rafah as of last week, continues brutally. More than 38,000 Palestinians, 15,000 of them children and 10,000 women, have lost their lives due to the massacres against civilians, which clearly aims at destroying the Palestinian society and moving to a new stage in the great Israeli project. More than 80,000 Palestinians became veterans as well. Additionally, according to estimates by the United Nations Population Fund, 1.7 million Palestinians – approximately 80% of the country’s population – have been internally displaced. Therefore, there is a terrible humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The hypocritical Western world, which claims to be the cradle of civilization, turns a blind eye to the massacres as befits it. Sadly, the Muslim-majority Middle Eastern countries have failed to unite in support of Palestine. Consequently, the oppression in Palestine persists because regional countries cannot find common ground among themselves. Since Israel is aware of this reality, it has the audacity to bomb even the people who have taken shelter in tent cities without hesitation. Hence, the persecution in Palestine partly stems from the lack of unity, akin to the Islamic principle of Tawhid, among the regional nations.

 In honor of the late Ömer Tuğrul Inançer, a prominent leader of the Cerrahi Sufi lodge, he frequently brought up this issue in the programs he participated in throughout his life, stressing that Muslims’ current state regarding Palestine is attributed to their failure to adhere to unity and their lack of deep contemplation. In essence, if the countries in the region had ceased their conflicting approaches to Palestine and instead unified in thought and action against oppression, Israel wouldn’t have been able to oppress our brothers and sisters in Palestine for such an extended period.

National interest concern

Why is it that the countries in the Middle East, often the first ones we think of when considering the Islamic world, cannot unify on the Palestinian issue, which directly impacts their security and future? This question asked by many who are interested in the topic, has numerous answers. In this article, we will touch on just one aspect. The answer lies partly in the concept of national interest, where states prioritize their own concerns. This concept, closely tied to realism in international relations, which emphasizes power and security, complicates the understanding of states’ foreign policy strategies and decisions.

 National interest, though its meaning varies depending on the context, essentially suggests that each state must prioritize its own benefits in a chaotic international setting and act accordingly. In the context of our discussion, we observe that the countries in the region, while largely maintaining their previous stances, shifted to prioritize their national interests. Consequently, they struggle to present a unified response to Israel, let alone address the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

Here, we must question how the silence surrounding the oppression in Palestine aligns with the national interests of the countries in the region. Some nations adopt a “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” approach, viewing Israel as not posing a threat to their security. Others are preoccupied with internal issues and thus indifferent to the Palestinian cause. Additionally, some countries opt for silence due to a perceived lack of strength to confront Israel. Some of the countries in the region are trying to ensure their national integrity or the continuity of the political regime in the country without encountering problems with Israel, the eye of the U.S. in the Middle East, which has assumed the role of the world’s gendarmerie. They aim to strike a delicate balance in their relations with Israel to prevent facing situations like the recent American occupations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Additionally, some nations rely on financial and military aid from distant allies and thus act in ways that serve their interests, even if it means disregarding the plight of Palestine. Overall, many countries in the region prioritize their own self-interests when it comes to the Palestinian issue.

Miscalculations

However, countries focusing solely on their own interests when dealing with the Palestinian issue are overlooking its complexity because it is crucial to recognize that Israel’s territorial ambitions, rooted in Zionism, extend far beyond Palestine. The concept of the "Promised Land" encompasses a vast area from the Nile to the Euphrates. Thus, turning a blind eye or actively supporting Israel’s expansionist agenda not only harms Palestinians but also jeopardizes the stability and future of the entire region. It is akin to a prisoner sympathizing with their captor.

It is important to remember that neighboring countries adopting a policy of “letting the non-aggressive snake live” might eventually encounter similar issues. Indeed, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a speech last month, accurately pointed out this reality by stating that Hamas in Gaza is conducting the front-line defense of Anatolia. The conclusion to be drawn from this is that Erdoğan, foreseeing the threat to Türkiye one day if Gaza were to be destroyed, equates the defense of these lands with the defense of Anatolia.

Here I want to highlight our book titled “The Palestinian Issue and Regional Actors” published last year. This book is relevant to our current discussion. In it, we analyze the policies of various countries on the Palestinian issue across a broad political landscape, spanning from Morocco to Iraq, from the Gulf countries to Tunisia and from Iran to Lebanon. The book, written with contributions from 13 authors, delves into the subject from the perspectives of political science and international relations. Our findings reveal that, except for Türkiye and some others, most countries in the region are unable to unify on the Palestinian issue due to prioritizing their own national interests. This situation ultimately benefits Israel’s expansionist agenda. In essence, the lack of unity among regional countries on the Palestinian issue stems from their failure to prioritize common values over self-interest.

Political leadership

It’s important to acknowledge the role of political leadership in the failure of regional countries to unite on the Palestinian issue. The personal attitudes of political leaders, who heavily influence the foreign policy of their respective states due to their positions and responsibilities, also impact the stance on Palestine. For instance, a select few leaders, such as President Erdoğan, demonstrate a supportive stance and actively work to alleviate Palestinians suffering under Israeli oppression. Since his notable “One Minute” speech against Israeli President Shimon Peres in 2009, Erdoğan has been perceived by Palestinians as a champion of their cause, striving to garner global support. I personally witnessed this sentiment during my visit to Al-Quds and other Palestinian cities in the near past. However, unlike Erdoğan a significant number of political leaders of the countries in the region choose to remain silent, prioritizing either their country’s relative interests or their personal political future.

To bring an end to the oppression in Palestine, it is essential for the countries in the region to recognize that Israel poses as much of a threat to themselves and the Islamic world as it does to Palestine. This requires a shift in mindset from individual concerns to collective unity. Without this collective consciousness, any proposed solutions would be futile. Additionally, countries in the region must transcend selfish and materialistic tendencies, such as prioritizing national interests, and come together in solidarity against the common adversary, particularly regarding Palestine. Put simply, the oppression in Palestine will persist unless countries in the region overcome internal divisions and adopt a unified stance rooted in the principles of monotheism. This necessity is emphasized in verse 46 of Surah Al-Anfal in the Quran, which urges believers not to dispute among themselves, lest they become weakened. Therefore, Muslim-majority countries have no alternative but to unite against the shared adversary.

Türkiye's unique stance

In addition to the points previously discussed, Türkiye continues to assert itself as the country in the region with the most resolute and accurate stance on Palestine, both before and after Oct. 7. This position is grounded in Türkiye’s historical responsibilities in the region, as well as its significant human and military capabilities. Even when considering events from Oct. 7 onward, Türkiye has consistently maintained that Israel’s actions in Gaza cannot be justified as self-defense, but rather constitute blatant acts of genocide rather than mere reactions to preceding events. Consequently, Türkiye has steadfastly stood by the Palestinian people in opposition to Israeli oppression from the outset, bolstered by strong support from its own populace.

An important point to highlight is that Türkiye not only speaks the truth about Palestine but also actively follows through on its words. At this juncture, when considering Türkiye’s efforts for Palestine, we can categorize them into six main areas. First, since Oct. 7, Türkiye has been actively engaged in diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the conflicts between the parties involved. Within this framework, Ankara proposed a new solution model, advocating for Türkiye to serve as one of the guarantor countries, with the goal of establishing lasting peace in the region through a two-state political structure. However, the Netanyahu administration, driven by its determination to perpetrate violence in Gaza, rejected Türkiye’s proposal.

Second, Türkiye has consistently addressed the pressing needs of the Palestinian people, who constantly face the stark reality of life-threatening situations under Israeli attacks. In fact, Türkiye has demonstrated significant generosity by being one of the top two countries providing aid to Gaza since Oct. 7. According to data from COGAT, around 25% of the humanitarian assistance reaching Gaza during this period originated from Türkiye.

Third, Türkiye facilitated the evacuation of some injured Palestinians from Gaza for medical treatment, despite the harsh Israeli blockade, thereby giving them a chance to survive.

Fourth, Türkiye actively intervened in the genocide case initiated by the Republic of South Africa against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC). It also shared all available evidence with the court to substantiate the allegations of genocide in Gaza, thereby lending support to the global legal campaign against Israel.

Fifth, Türkiye’s lobbying efforts resulted in four European countries recognizing Palestine as a state last month. This further solidified the global anti-Israel coalition, in which Türkiye plays a significant role.

Sixth, Türkiye maintained a consistent stance by suspending its commercial relations with Israel, despite significant trade volumes – $5.4 billion in exports and $1.6 billion in imports according to last year’s data. In summary, Türkiye distinguishes itself from other regional actors by approaching the Palestinian issue without prioritizing national interests and by taking responsibility regardless of its power.

It is important to recognize the significant efforts of the Turkish media, which has remained steadfast in their national and humanitarian values. They have diligently worked to shed light on the atrocities in Gaza, preventing the suppression of truth. Israel’s disinformation campaign is steadily losing credibility, thanks to the truthful coverage provided by mainstream Turkish media. This stands as a challenge to Western media, which seems to have lost its moral compass. Similarly, Turkish society isn't indifferent to Israeli oppression today, as it was yesterday, and shows extremely close interest in the issue. Thanks to ongoing campaigns led by nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) with Islamic and humanitarian sensitivities, Turkish society is challenging Israeli oppression by stubbornly continuing civil protests and boycotts."

"The manager of the Pennsylvania township that hosted a campaign rally where a gunman fired shots at former President Donald Trump on July 13 said that local officers radioed a call on a tactical channel about a “suspicious male” near the warehouse where he ultimately perched.

In a statement released on July 17, Butler Township Manager Tom Knights said that after the former president arrived, “a call went out for a suspicious male near the AGR building,” referring to the warehouse that was used by Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Multiple officers who were on traffic duty for the rally “broke free from their traffic intersections ... to aid in the search” for the suspicious person, the statement said.

It added, “A search was conducted around the AGR building and the person of interest was not located, and no ladder was discovered.”

During interviews with NBC News and Fox News, Mr. Knights said that a “blanket tactical channel” was used and that individuals on the channel heard the call about a suspicious male.

“Everyone who was on that tactical channel heard it,” he told NBC News."

"U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Friday he had spoken by telephone with Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky, and pledged to end the European country's war with Russia.

"I appreciate President Zelensky for reaching out because I, as your next President of the United States, will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and devastated countless innocent families," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

"Both sides will be able to come together and negotiate a deal that ends the violence and paves a path forward to prosperity."

The United States has provided tens of billions of dollars in military assistance for Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 -- though a Trump victory in the November election would put Washington's continued support into question.

Zelensky confirmed the call, during which he congratulated Trump on formally becoming the Republican Party's presidential nominee, as well as wishing the 78-year-old well after an attempt on his life a week ago.

"We agreed with President Trump to discuss at a personal meeting what steps can make peace fair and truly lasting," Zelensky said in a post on X.

"I noted the vital bipartisan and bicameral American support for protecting our nation's freedom and independence," he said.

Trump has repeatedly claimed he would end the war very quickly, without offering details as to how.

Last week, the ex-president hosted at his Florida estate Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who met with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this month.

Trump's frequent praise for Putin and reluctance to outright criticize the Russian invasion have stirred concerns among Ukraine's allies that he would force the country into accepting partial defeat.

He has also repeatedly suggested backing away from NATO, even undermining the alliance's collective defense guarantee by saying he would encourage Russia to attack any members not who had not met their financial obligations.

Trump's running mate J.D. Vance leads the isolationist wing of congressional Republicans, who argue the United States should drop aid to Ukraine.

Vance was one of the fiercest opponents of the approval of $61 billion in new military aid for Ukraine, which was stalled by Republican lawmakers for months earlier this year -- a time in which Russia made battlefield gains.

Trump told the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday that he would bring an end to raging international crises, saying he could "stop wars with a telephone call."

"I will end every single international crisis that the current administration has created, including the horrible war with Russia and Ukraine," Trump said, without elaborating on how.

Zelensky said earlier this week that he and Trump would "work together" if the Republican won the White House.

"I'm not worried about this," he told a news conference.

Zelensky declined to say whether he was worried about US President Joe Biden, who has been facing calls to drop his reelection campaign following a disastrous debate performance and questions over his health and mental acuity.

He did, however, acknowledge that "turbulence" during the U.S. election cycle was having a "big impact" on his country.

Trump's relationship with Zelensky famously goes back to his time in the White House.

In 2019, Trump was impeached for withholding military aid to Ukraine while pressuring Zelensky to help him dig up dirt on his election rival Biden -- a race he went on to lose in 2020."

MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS

 

 The AK 47 assault rifle is not exactly a gun one would use for target practice, nor for shooting at someone's head, in an assassination attempt, from about 150 yards distance.  We know the alleged shooter had no scope mounted, he was apparently caught with having a range finder in his backpack.  A range finder does not provide the accuracy required for such an undertaking.

This type of rifle when converted to automatic is more or less a bullet sprayer, and was often used for mass-killings in different scenarios.

"The AK-47 (and its derivatives) is more than accurate enough for war conditions.

If you have been in any war, you should know that in the case of a standard assault rifle, aiming at 500 m will not happen in 99.99% of cases. And if a situation like this even happens (which is highly unlikely) you will not use single but burst fire. Because you're not on the shooting range. You are in a real war situation where you have a lot of variables. With all this adrenaline pumps like crazy.

Even if you had the most accurate assault rifle, your chances of hitting an enemy soldier at 500 m are close to zero in realistic conditions. The only realistic chance is a combined automatic fire of the whole unit. Forget 500, this tactic will be used regularly over 300 m.

And the main point of this fire will not be to kill, but to suppress the enemy. And accuracy is not the point here because you shoot in the general direction. Sufficient accuracy is that you can hit the average house.

Discussions like this are completely pointless. Every assault rifle that is in service anywhere in the world today is accurate enough for what it is intended for, and that is war and not a shooting range.

If you want accuracy for a shooting range then you take a sport rifle, because it is intended for this. The assault rifle is a compromise intended for war. And accuracy in this case you have to look in the relation to what the assault rifles are intended for."  Emphasis added.

 Now, let us look at the current scenario.  The AK 47 (no scope) shooter is credited with one successful kill head shot of the man shielding his family, a few mm miss of the head of Trump, and a gut shot of another spectator; the injuries of the third person are unknown to the writer.  Apparently, neither of the injured received head injuries.  Under the condition described, by the media, the probability of hitting the body of a human, with an AK 47 (without a scope) is highly unlikely at 500 meter, and at 125 meter it is a low probability shot at that distance according to experts in the know. 

    

Some expert AK 47 users claim that a well-maintained rifle loaded with good quality bullets can achieve accuracy between 1 or 2 min. of arc.

What in Hell is going on?

 Only God's Angels saved Trump that day!

While some may be disappointed about the outcome of the assassination attempt, surely the vast majority of Americans are grateful that Trump survived.  The polarizing along party lines exist only because both US parties have decided to fight this contest in the gutter.  Just like in the legal arena, people think that their lawyer hates the other lawyer, nothing could be further from the truth.  Surely, after court appearances some may very well have a drink together at the local bar, or are part of a foursome at the golf course, the next day.

 Political speeches are usually loaded with exaggerations and lies even, for entertainment and effect, yet some of the parties' faithful consume them as if they were the gospel truth, apparently. Unfortunately, politicians know of this, worse they count on this effect to ensure the votes of the transformed.

The challenger, nowadays, no longer speaks about what he/she would do in the future; all we hear now is what great things were done in the past.  The incumbent will beat the drum about promising to finish the job, which is still waiting to be started, after nearly 4 years have past.

To replace this lack of planning for the future, both parties have resorted to name calling.  It is entertaining to be sure, however, it serves no purpose other than eat up valuable time, time that could bring improvements for the Citizenry.  If the politicians of both parties would stop handing out taxpayer monies and weapons of mass destruction to corrupt foreign leaders, including a percentage for whomever, things might improve in the homeland.

While we do not know whether or not the shooter performed a hit job, or why he was allowed all this space and time, to fire his shots, or why Trump was not protected before the shots were fired, however, we know for sure what transpired defies logic.

 Did you ever hear about FBI's most wanted man?  Now we have FBI's most hated man (Trump), apparently.
