Jesters were also expected to assist with household chores and partake in more serious matters, including accompanying soldiers to the battlefield in times of conflict. Beyond their entertainment duties for the troops, they would also be tasked with distracting the opposition, and delivering sometimes-dangerous messages across enemy lines."

A King or Queen was usually surrounded by fake people who would flatter them for their own gain and were therefore of little value to them.  On the other hand, their court Chester had the skills to cloak his critique in humor thereby giving them valuable feedback on critical issues.

Problems are magnified when modern weak leaders, lacking self-esteem, go out of their way to hire 'Brown-Nosers', with little abilities, for the purpose to massage their egos.  Case in point, modern-day Chesters like Kimmel and Colbert are publicly criticized (perhaps threatened) for their candid observations, cloaked in humor, not unlike the method used by Court Chesters of old.  Their value lies in the fact that they are voicing nothing more than what the Citizenry really think already.  What is wrong with that?

Even catholic Popes employed Court Chesters, at one time, until one immature character, probably lacking self-esteem, came along and stopped this practice.

The problem today is the fact that many elected politicians on either side of the isle have skeletons in their closets, which can be exploited by foreign entities to bend them to their will.  This common defect makes them band together, despite their political differences, to snuff-out any rumors that cannot be confirmed unless one of them, free of guilt, finds the courage to report the hidden truth.  What are the chances of that to happen?
